What We Believe
Transformation is real only if God is the source of it. This God is not an ill-defined “Higher Power”, but rather the Creator of the Universe who has revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ.
- The Word of God is the authoritative rule and guide for our lives. We believe in an objective standard of truth in this world, as revealed to us in the Bible. (Hebrews 4:12)
- There is a real devil. He is an actual entity who, through the power of deception, seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 8:31-32)
- Sin is deceptive, powerful, and addictive. (Romans 7:15-25)
- There is a Redeemer. Jesus Christ has won victory over both sin and death by His death. Through this we have forgiveness, and the power to experience real and lasting change in our lives. (Romans 1:16)
- This is a fallen world. Because of this, even those who are transformed must contend with their fallen nature. (Romans 7:21)
- According to the Bible, addiction is a moral condition, a willful choice to sin. (Ephesians 5:18)
- God works through His Spirit to transform believers. (John 16:13-15)
- God works through people. There is no one more isolated and alone than the suffering addict. People serve as agents of grace to aid in the believers transformation. (Hebrews 10:23-35)
- “Transformation” is intensive discipleship. “Clean and Sober” is no guarantee of lasting change. Transformation means gaining new tools and strategies to deal with once overwhelming stumbling blocks.
- Repentance is more than just confession. It involves a conscious decision to permanently turn away from sin, and the formation of new perceptions and attitudes. (Acts 3:19)
- Rigorous honesty is absolutely vital to transformation. Only truth will set us free. There must be no room for “secret places” in the believers life. (1 John 1:5-9)
- “Grace flows freely through unclogged conduits.” If we wish to reach out to hurting people, we must be in the process of dealing with our own issues first.
