Every structure needs to be built on a solid foundation to be a sound structure. In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul speaks of our lives in builders terms. In 1 Corinthians 3:11 Paul says “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” We follow that principle in that, to build a healthy and addiction free life, your life must be built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.

In Luke 20:17, Jesus, speaking in a parable, describes himself as the “stone that the builders rejected” and who becomes “the cornerstone.” Again in 1 Peter 2:4-7 We read “As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’ So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone….’”

In the same manner, our entire ministry is built on the principle of Jesus Christ, as not only the foundation, but the chief cornerstone. So, take a look at the 4 “cornerstones” or areas of ministry at Wisdom in Living Life by clicking each of them below:

At Wisdom In Living Life Ministry, we educate, equip and empower God’s people to effectively reach those imprisoned by addiction. In doing so, we address the issue for what it is; sin and not a disease. We do not follow the disease-model of most recovery programs. The disease is in our hearts rather than in our bodies. We believe that genuine freedom can only be found in Christ.

Our program is designed as a plan; one of training, not treatment. We address the sin problem, and then train from a biblical perspective. We allow God to do the transformation, our part is to guide. We recognize that there is a time for recovery and then a time to move Beyond Recovery! That is where ALL things become new and true freedom is found, as in 2 Corinthians 5:17.

A catered dinner and a variety of deserts, including the favorite banana pudding, were followed by a parade of individuals freed from addiction after training by the Wisdom in Living Life Ministry. They rejoiced in telling their experiences that included rising from addiction to illegal drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol and pornography and beginning a new life, never again returning to the life of drugs, crime and broken families.

DOWNLOAD STORY>>>

They were attending the annual “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” banquet at the Wisdom in Living Life Ministry Training Center located at 12408 A Old White Horse Rd., in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Guests attending the annual event included the Chief Magistrate (Summary Court Judge) of Greenville County, Diane Cagle-Holcomb, before whom many of the former addicts had appeared in earlier years, and the Mayor-Elect of Travelers Rest, Councilman Wayne McCall, both of whom are strong supporters and advocates of the highly successful ministry.

The prescription for the cure for addiction taught by Wynn Freeman and his former students, all former addicts, is the only permanent cure for addiction known to man.

Founder and CEO of Wisdom in Living Life Ministry, Winn Freeman, explained that, “Most treatment programs involve minimal emphasis on personal accountability and moral choice in the active addict. There is a tremendous emphasis on reliance in a nebulous ‘Higher Power,’ who it is believed, will aid the ‘recovering’ individual in remaining ‘clean and sober.’ This approach removes all responsibility from the addict from his or her choices and relegates God to the ‘helper’ rather than Savior.

“Through practical experience in our own lives, and watching the transformation occur in hundreds of others, we have come to know that Jesus Christ is the only Higher Power, and in naming Him addicts can transcend ‘recovery’ and instead embrace ‘transformation,’ moving beyond recovery! Again, this is where addiction ends and life begins,” Freeman emphasized.

Individuals, families and government agencies spend hundreds of millions of dollars annually seeking relief from addiction through treatment and recovery programs that can provide temporary relief for many addicts. Unfortunately, many times the recovering addict lapses back into the old habits. Eventually they become so totally enslaved to substance abuse that they are incapable of rescuing themselves from the addiction. Many turn to crime in order to support their habits.

Wisdom in Living Life Ministry provides instruction for achieving a permanent cure, based on Biblical principles that teach that through Christ a person can put aside old habits and become free of the urge to seek drugs and other sinful habits that have become an addiction.

The training is based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 “If a man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things pass away and behold all things become new.”

Those who attended the Christmas Banquet saw the happiest group of people you will find anywhere. They were former hopeless drunks and drug addicts who now have families restored, have gained meaningful employment and have become teachers of others who have also come to the realization that they cannot become free from addiction alone and are willing to follow the undisputed example of those who have become “a new creature” in Christ.

Most traditional substance abuse programs treat addiction as a disease and focus on recovery through mental, emotional and physical rehabilitation. Rather than the disease model approach to substance abuse treatment, Wisdom in Living Life Ministry provides faith-based substance abuse training, counseling and guidance to addicts and to families and groups such as pastoral staffs and leaders in churches and businesses who are addressing substance abuse issues.

Since it was first developed, this faith-based approach has had a 71 percent success rate.

That means that one year after finishing the program seven out of ten graduates were still free of alcohol and drugs. Conventional secular substance abuse programs have less than a ten percent success rate.

Ted Cochran, Director of Operations at Homes of Hope, and a former student of Wisdom in Living Life Ministry, was the guest speaker. He discussed how Christ restored his life and freed him from addiction several years ago. He is now teaching others what he was taught and had at least a dozen of his students with him at the Banquet.

Several other former students spoke of their transformation from an addict to a respectable citizen who is pointing others to the lasting cure for addiction and a new life through Jesus Christ.

Guests and former students were welcomed home by Winn and Rhonda Freeman and special music was provided by Family Harmony, featuring the Mark Dibler family.

Wisdom in Living Life Ministry is a non-profit, faith-based ministry founded in 2000 by Winn Freeman, himself a former addict. Its goal is to prevent and eliminate drug and alcohol addiction one life at a time. It is operated by a staff which brings to the work a wealth of experience in residential and life skill training programs, law enforcement and criminal justice. An active board of directors is comprised of representatives from local business, educational, law enforcement and financial communities.

Anyone who is sincere about being free from addiction of any kind, or would like to help or learn more about the ministry may contact Wisdom in Living Life Ministry Temporary Training Center at 12408 A Old White Horse Rd., Travelers Rest, SC 29690, call the help line at (864) 271-HELP (4357), for additional information.

During the Christmas and New Year holiday season, it is estimated that 180,000 Greenville County residents will abuse alcohol and other drugs. Some 200 will try drugs for the first time. Up to 58 percent of teens will consume alcohol at least once and 1,415 teens will ride in an automobile with an intoxicated driver. During this time, someone will die of a drug overdose. Dozens of criminal acts will be committed by individuals under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and many of their victims will be sober law-abiding citizens.

In 1988, Winn Freeman was given a 3% chance of succeeding at anything. He was living in California, a heroin addict and a drunk; headed for jail. Today, Freeman is still in contact with law enforcement, only instead of riding in the back of a patrol car on the way to jail, Freeman has law enforcement on his side. When he walked out of jail, he was walking toward hope, Greenville, college and Wisdom In Living Life Ministry.

Wisdom In Living Life is the organization Freeman founded in 2000. It is a Bible-based ministry seeking to “educate, equip and empower God’s people to effectively reach those imprisoned by addiction.” As testimony to Freeman’s character and reputation since, with the help of the Lord, Freeman turned his life around, the ministry’s advisory board, as well as its board of directors, is comprised of a group of distinguished community leaders and dedicated public servants.

This was certainly the case for Brian Reid. In 1997 he went to prison for selling cocaine. He spent a whole year behind bars. When he got out he moved in with his girlfriend and two years later they had their first son Tyler. The newfound responsibility of becoming a daddy and later that year marrying his sweetheart, Tina, were not enough to change him. Not even a little.

Brian had progressed from being a dope dealer to being a full-time dope user. Brian recalls “I always thought I could quit on my own, but it never happened. I was shooting up crystal meth and I was out of my mind most of the time and if I wasn’t; I was thinking about it. I couldn’t wait until Friday night; I always knew I could do what I wanted. If I left on a Friday and did drugs all weekend by at least Tuesday or so I would be able to talk my way back into my relationship with my wife.”

It was a nightmare, only I was awake.

Tina, his wife, recalls it differently. “I would spend most nights crying myself to sleep and trying to make excuses for Brian to our son. It was a nightmare, only I was awake. I was trying to be a good mom and wife but didn’t know when my husband would take off and the drugs would take over. I just kept praying, “Lord just bring him home safe.” I never could figure out why or how my husband could do this to us. Brian would go through short periods of being with us as a family; do well for a little while and would then fall into trouble, usually something big. As soon as things started to look up; the downside would come soon thereafter. There was even a time that we started attending church and got involved and then he would fall into trouble. It brought me down too and we would get off track and stop going to church altogether. I didn’t know how to reach out to anyone because this isn’t something commonly discussed at church, and I felt that no one could relate.”

In 2007, their son Timmy was born. But Brian was not exactly up for “father of the year”. His drug habit was spinning out of control, and he spent a good part of the next two years making bad decisions, and falling really short on his promises to quit drugs again and again.

A friend of his made the call to Wisdom In Living Life Ministry

Early in 2009, Brian had hit a new low. He reverted to stealing from his family. In fact, it was the same family member that bailed him out of jail in 1997.
A friend of his made the call to Wisdom In Living Life Ministry, and Brian finally did the one thing he said he would do and that was “show up”. He came on a Thursday night to the “Choosing to Be Free” orientation class. He recalls going home that night and saying “Here I am God and I really mean it.” He asked Jesus to come into his heart. It was the night of all nights; he got saved.

Brian began to allow godly influences into his life. He keeps his appointments for counseling, attends classes and is now “learning how to live.”
Tina says, with a sparkle in her eye “The night Brian found the Lord has been such a blessing in our lives. He gets up and does his devotional, writes in his journal, he spends quality time with our kids and we are even back at church. I can actually depend on him, when before I could not. The trust part is slowly coming back and God is working with me on this too. There is no doubt that God has his hand on him. It is different this time and I know God is directing us.

Brian is grateful to Wisdom In Living Life Ministry, Tina and both of their parents for not giving up on him. He now encourages others to let God be in control. He says “God definitely has a plan for my life, and He spared me for a reason. I put enough meth in my veins to kill a horse but God had a better plan.

Today, I am on cloud nine and I couldn’t be happier. My son Tyler told me the other day, “Daddy I am so glad you changed.” That means the world to me. With God’s help I will continue to work on my character and integrity. As much as I am counting on God to direct me; I want my family to know that they can count on me.”

Jim Cannon might appear to be, at first glance, an ordinary man. Humble in nature with a kind smile. As I spoke with him, the word ordinary began to turn to extraordinary as he began to unveil to me how his life’s vocation began by a “few simple acts of kindness” from others who invested in his life and how it turned into a three pronged vocation, purposed in one mission: teaching the gospel, and mentoring disciples for Jesus Christ.

In fact, he runs a quality cabinet making business called KingsPointe Industries Inc, a Baptist church called Faith Bible Fellowship and a private K-12 school called KingsPointe Schools. All located in Travelers Rest. Though they are three separate organizations, they are a “trinity” of sorts, one utilizing the other for success. The cabinetry business is using its resources to train adults in a trade, the school is educating and training children, and the church encompasses the total family using the Gospel as a guide for living.

It all started as a mission station reaching out to the community. KingsPointe Schools and Faith Bible Fellowship are sister ministries, both operating under the corporate parent, LifeSearch Ministries. He states “our primary focus is in children with less than an even chance and young men who struggle to cross over into successful adulthood.” LifeSearch Ministries is conservative in theology, compassionate of the underprivileged, and helpful to those who struggle. The ministry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation which was chartered in South Carolina in 1990

KingsPointe Schools is a K-12 school primarily for church members whose children are given an opportunity for individualized Christian education while working also with the parents to build the whole family into successful, god-honoring citizens.

KingsPointe Industries is the cabinet making business also serving many purposes. Jim not only services the building community with top notch cabinetry, but he has put in place a vocational training program pairing those men in need with highly skilled industry workers. It allows for skill building and training in one. The cabinet business is in fact funding a good portion of the schools operating expenses. Though he states “in this past year due to the economy, the revenue in the cabinet business has dropped dramatically, God is still providing.” All three entities reap eternal rewards ministering to the families he works with.

When God blessed Jim with his building to start his school a few years ago, he contacted his former colleague at the Miracle Hill Greenville Rescue Mission, Winn Freemen, whom Jim knew had a need. Jim says “I had this whole bottom floor” and knew Winn could use it for Wisdom In Living Life Ministry. So it was agreed that Winn could upgrade the bottom floor, he could cover 1/3 of the utilities and utilize it, it would be a good fit.

Jim says “A simple act of kindness” doesn’t always mean withdrawing money from the bank. It might just be offering something you have, or for example donating a day’s work it you have a landscaping business, or grading our ball field if you have a company with those resources.” He winks and says “it sure would help our kids to get out and play ball”.

Lori Small has been clean from crack cocaine for a year now. She is beginning to see her life be pieced back together. Her love of the drug no longer controls her; yet, it is the love for her children, a yearning to have them back, and a relationship with Jesus Christ, which drives her. Through counseling and training at Wisdom In Living Life Ministry, Lori has found hope through the support of others like herself, and a trust in God to guide her through each day.

Tragedy struck her life at a very young age

Lori grew up in a private school and knew God because of her parents. Tragedy struck her life at age four, when her mom died; at age eight, when her father died; and at age fourteen, when her brother died. Despite these incidents, she did not begin using drugs until age 25, when she was faced with divorce. Shortly after being exposed to crack cocaine, Lori found out she was pregnant with a girl, Mattie. She remained clean throughout her pregnancy and several years after that. When Mattie was three years old her father took her (Mattie) to Georgia, away from Lori and she relapsed. She expressed, “My daughter was my whole life, she was on my hip and then she wasn’t there anymore. That retracted me back to drugs again, which was the worst thing I could do.”

For ten years she drugged to numb the pain

Continuing on in her drugging Lori had a son when she was 34 years old. DSS stepped in and Lori allowed her brother to be primary care taker of her son. For ten years drugs helped to numb pain which she encountered at such a young age. It was a relentless excuse to dull her feelings.
The change in Lori’s life began when she met Farron Hancox, at church. She found out he was a biblical counselor at Wisdom In Living Life Ministry. Lori immediately noticed something different about him and came to find out he had been a living testimony
of what their training center was teaching. She began to notice a gradual change in her own life. Lori says, “before that I went through NA and it just didn’t work for me. I would use that as an excuse to go get out of the house, to go get high again. I have a hard time listening to non-addicts who try to tell me not to use drugs, if you haven’t been there then you don’t know. That was a big problem for me going to these places, and them not knowing where I’ve been. They keep saying you shouldn’t use drugs, you shouldn’t use drugs…well we know that! But you haven’t been where I’ve been.” The stories of those individuals, ministering at Wisdom In Living Life Ministry, have inspired Lori and many others like herself. They have learned from those who have been where they have been, and felt the same feelings they have felt, driving down certain roads. The greatest thing, now, is that these individuals have come back from where they were and live to tell their stories!

In the past year, she has achieved a lot and loves having a career

Lori is so excited about her life and the things God has brought her through. She not only has been drug-free for one year, but in this time she has achieved a lot and became a cosmetology instructor and actually has a career that she loves. She recalls, driving one day and thinking, “I just drove by the hood and I didn’t even think about it (getting high).” Lori has found it gets easier everyday to live her life without drugs. She says, “My family has me back and I feel like I’m coming back. I lost myself there for a while, but it’s good to be back. You get to that point when you know better, and God disciplines you even more for it. I’m glad He loves me enough to do that.” Lori has experienced true freedom and learned to forgive herself, because Jesus has forgiven her. Striving to get her children back, she knows and believes God will miraculously intervene to answer her prayers, bringing back those two “very important” pieces of her life.
