Wisdom’s Journal – August, 2009

Our Mission: Prevent drug abuse by children and adults through education, and to provide help through counseling and training for those who are already affected by the life-dominating sin of addiction, one life at a time.In Winn’s Words: I think that sometimes people tire of hearing my story of total freedom from drug & alcohol addiction but it’s what keeps me alive and keeps the wind in my sails. It reminds me of my purpose and His plan to tell other individuals and families imprisoned by addiction that they can experience total freedom too.

In Winn's Words

Winn's Words

Here at Wisdom in Living Life Ministry it’s not uncommon to see lives being changed. Just a couple of weeks ago I met with seven former students and they are now my peers and partners in ministry. Not only have they been drug free 5 -12 years but they have all moved beyond recovery, have families, and are learning how to live. They’re community involved, and working in ministry too. Because of their story many other lives are finding hope, purpose and change too.

In speaking about helping people and lives changing… I believe our “Beyond Recovery Project” is the Lord’s project and that in the next few weeks we will begin pushing dirt on the fifty acres of land that God has provided. Our Beyond Recovery Project will provide a Christ-centered, Bible based, residential end addiction ministry for those individuals and families who are imprisoned by addiction. It will meet the need for residential  help  for the 70% ”functioning addicts” – that is, people going to work, school or church though wrestling with some type of addiction. It will provide the concentrated training and accountability necessary in the initial stages of learning to live forever free from substance abuse.

Our approach is to erase all denominational walls and teach practical biblical application. This allows for “total transformation” in all areas; spiritual, emotional and physical health and wellness, to bring the individual and their family structure to thrive in newness to move “Beyond Recovery!”

It is our hope and prayer that you will join us in the fight against this devastating epidemic that is killing our children and destroying our homes.  Please partner with us in offering hope, changing lives, renewing families, and contribute to our community’s quality of life.  We need your prayers, desire your support, and welcome your assistance to enable people to move … Beyond Recovery!

God is still working!

Change a Heart… Change a Life…

Our Intern, Sean Hamilton

Sean HamiltonA little over five years ago, after multiple battles with this “drug thing”, Winn Freeman pulled up to my mother’s house and asked me, “Are you ready to put this ‘drug thing’ behind you, son.”. I said yes and I’ve chosen to say yes ever since.. I have a new life now.

I have trained under Winn’s guidance and recently I’ve been accepted as an intern at Wisdom In Living Life Ministry. God has used this internship to stretch me spiritually. I’m finding out that I still have so much to learn. Being around Jesus filled people on a daily basis is one of the benefits of an internship at Wisdom In Living Life. Since returning as an intern I’ve enrolled into Bible College. I am so looking forward to the things that await me in the future.

  • The Honorable Diane D. Cagle-Chief Magistrate, Greenville County will offer opening remarks and  prayer.
  • Winn Freeman will be teaching: What Is Addiction? For those of you who want to understand more about addiction and how scripture explains it clearly.  See how pain, feeling normal, and euphoria play a role in addiction.

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season  -  Hebrews 11:25

This video gives insight on the people whose “real lives” were imprisoned by addiction.  A must-see that encompasses the full scope of how much this affects all of us and what Wisdom In Living Life Ministry is doing about it.

Farron’s Fruit’s -A word from our Education and Counseling, Director ChoicesThe choices that we make are very important throughout life. There is no such thing as a win, win situation. If we are to gain something in life we must sacrifice something else. I think about the time I was in college, as I would look out the window and see my fellow students playing and socializing in a green meadow. How I thought it sure would be nice just to take a break and go have some fun. However, I was there to learn and I had papers due and exams were coming. Therefore, I had to sacrifice having fun with my friends, so I could pass my courses and get a degree. Now because I sacrificed in college I have a job that I love, and my friends I saw playing in the meadow had to settle for something less. Why settle for second best in life when God wants the best for each and every one of His children. All any of us must do is make the right choice.

For Churches leaders & Pastors:

We want to educate your congregation about the growing concern about drug and alcohol addiction. Let us do a presentation to offer some expert advice and support from our ministry, on how to handle this crisis

We have received our initial permits from the SC Dept of Transportation and from Greenville County that will allow us to move ahead with clearing and grading of the site.  We look forward to having our partner on site construction – Payne, McGinn & Cummins, Inc. – begin the process of building roads, installing drainage and erosion control measures, as well as setting up our building sites.  And thanks to the efforts of our design and engineering teams, we are in the final phases of work needed to complete construction documents for the project.   Our needs you can help with!

As we begin work on site it will become important to secure materials and equipment, so are looking for help with storage containers and fencing.  Also, given the rugged nature and terrain of this development, we are looking for an off-road utility vehicle to use on site.  If you know of anyone who can help, please contact Derrick at the project office at derrick@wisdominlivinglife.org.
